Pete Hegseth wants testosterone for his soldiers

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced a new screening program for active-duty soldiers on Wednesday, aimed at testing for testosterone deficiency. Hegseth stated that the program intends to ensure soldiers maintain appropriate testosterone levels necessary for optimal job performance. He noted that testosterone levels naturally decline with age.

The proposed initiative suggests that soldiers, particularly those over the age of 30, could voluntarily undergo hormone level testing annually, with potential pathways to therapy. While some medical professionals caution that general testing without presenting symptoms is atypical, Hegseth highlighted the known impacts of low testosterone. These impacts can include fatigue, loss of muscle mass, and sexual decline.

Despite the medical caution, Hegseth expressed confidence in the preventative nature of the screening. He asserted that early treatment can effectively address these associated health issues. The focus of the program appears to be proactive health management for service members.

The availability of voluntary testing for hormone levels is presented as a way to maintain physical readiness throughout a soldier’s career.
