Therapist Petra Komidar notes that she frequently receives calls from parents, particularly those of teenagers, seeking guidance on managing their children’s phone usage. The impetus for her work, according to Komidar, stemmed from observations regarding societal dynamics and interpersonal relationships. She identified a perceived decline in connection, responsibility, honesty toward oneself and others, and the capacity for active listening.
Driven by a desire to make a positive impact, Komidar began focusing her efforts on children and adolescents, leveraging her understanding of human behavior. For the seventh consecutive year, she organizes specialized summer camps designed for children and teenagers. A key feature of these camps is the strict prohibition of electronic devices, including phones, computers, tablets, and smartwatches.
Participants, aged 8 to 17, are instructed to bring only necessary personal items such as clothing, toiletries, and an optional personal toy. Komidar emphasizes that while digital devices are banned during the program, parents retain her contact information for support. These camps aim to provide an environment free from constant digital distractions, fostering alternative forms of interaction and personal development.
