A recent Eurobarometer survey indicates that a significant majority of Europeans feel their nations have benefited from EU membership, with 74% of respondents reporting this positive view. This figure represents one of the strongest endorsements the EU has received to date, according to Politico, noting that the EU had previously achieved such a high result earlier this year. However, the survey also highlighted growing global anxieties.
Regarding the world’s outlook, 58% of respondents expressed pessimism about the future, marking a six percentage point increase compared to the survey conducted in November of last year. Despite the global apprehension, a majority—59%—of participants remain optimistic about the future of the European Union itself. When asked about the most significant advantage of EU membership, respondents cited the bloc’s contribution to maintaining peace and security.
Furthermore, the survey identified key areas where the EU should concentrate efforts to strengthen its international standing. Defense and security, alongside energy matters, were named as primary focus areas for the Union.
