Disease Outbreak Confirmed in Croatian Farms, Wild Boar
Croatian veterinary authorities, UVHVVR, have reported an outbreak of a disease affecting pig populations across two counties. The initial cases were identified in two smaller farms within Osijek-Baranja County, with one farm documenting a single infected pig and the other reporting three. Further investigation has confirmed the presence of the disease in a wild boar located in Virovitičko-podravska County.
Authorities have established a restricted zone surrounding the affected farms to contain the spread. According to UVHVVR, the source of the outbreak is attributed to non-compliance with biosecurity measures by domestic pig farmers. Specifically, individuals were observed hunting with wild boars, leading to the introduction of the disease.
The UVHVVR is urging all pig farmers to consistently implement robust biosecurity protocols. These measures include the consistent use of protective clothing and footwear when working with animals, alongside thorough disinfection procedures. The aim is to minimize the risk of introducing the disease into pig rearing operations.
This outbreak highlights the importance of preventative measures in mitigating the risk of disease spread within agricultural settings. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
