An incident involving a large tree occurred near the Primorsko-Goranska area around 11:10 AM. According to reports from the local police department, an Aleppo pine tree, estimated to be approximately 13.5 meters high at the root level, suddenly fell. Several individuals were located beneath the fallen tree, comprising eight citizens: four from Croatia and four from the Czech Republic.
Among those affected were two children from Croatia and one child from the Czech Republic. Authorities confirmed that all eight individuals managed to evacuate the area and escape the debris before the arrival of police and emergency medical services. Initial reports indicated that the injuries sustained were minor, primarily consisting of abrasions and superficial wounds.
The company EKO-MURVICA, responsible for the maintenance of local green areas, has initiated an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Experts are analyzing the failure of the tree. According to the company’s explanation, the Aleppo pine is a species known for having a relatively shallow root system.
Furthermore, the stability of such trees can be compromised by several environmental factors, including prolonged drought conditions, the specific properties of the soil and terrain, and consistent exposure to strong winds in the area where the tree was situated.
