Oberstdorf has been selected to host the 2031 Nordic World Ski Championships. The announcement was made during a recent congress in Belgrade, following Alexander Ospelt’s assumption of leadership of the FIS, which replaced Johan Eliasch. Although the decision was anticipated to be finalized a month prior, the FIS subsequently postponed the confirmation.
At the initial meeting following the election, the FIS presidium determined that Oberstdorf would host the 2031 Nordic World Ski Championships. The selection process proceeded without apparent difficulty, with the German bid receiving 16 votes compared to Planica’s six. Following the confirmation, Ospelt stated his satisfaction with the open and honest discussion surrounding the significant decision.
He offered congratulations to Oberstdorf for presenting a strong candidacy from a major center of Nordic skiing globally. The FIS World Council subsequently ratified the designation of Oberstdorf as the host city for the event.
