Slovenian Basketball Star Nike Barić Joins Celje Club
Celje Basketball Club has announced the addition of Nike Barić, a 33-year-old former captain of the Slovenian women’s national basketball team, to their roster for the 2026/27 season. This move represents a significant addition to the club’s lineup. Barić’s career is distinguished by extensive experience across multiple European leagues and clubs.
Considered a landmark move in the history of Slovenian women’s basketball, her transfer to Spartak from Moscow in 2011 remains a notable achievement. Throughout her career, Barić played for Russian clubs including Spartak Moscow, UMMC Jekaterinburg, Dinamo Kursk and Nika, Turkish Mersin and Elazig, Polish CCC Polkowice and concluded her playing days with Israeli Hapoel Be er Sheva. During her time with these teams, Barić achieved considerable success, securing three European Club Championships (2016, 2018, 2019) and two European Supercup Trophies (2018, 2019).
Notably, she was selected by the Minnesota Lynx in the second round of the WNBA league draft in 2012. The FIBA recognized her contributions to European basketball. This latest move solidifies Barić’s legacy as a prominent figure in slovenian basketball, particularly within the nika organization.
