New hope for Timmy, the failed one: he would be “pulled” into the North Sea

Rescue Efforts Continue for Stranded Whale, ‘Timmy,’ on Baltic Sea

A 12-ton whale, known as “Timmy,” has remained stranded on the coast of the Baltic Sea for nearly a month, prompting ongoing rescue attempts. The whale first appeared on March 23rd at Timmendorfer Strand in the Lübecker Bay, where initial efforts assisted him in returning to the water before he became trapped within a sandy dune. As the situation has progressed, German environmentalists and biologists have developed a high-risk strategy to relocate the distressed animal.

Recognizing the limited time remaining, the team intends to transport “Timmy” into the North Sea. Preparations are currently underway, with a specialized barge – designed to resemble a whale – being deployed to the location where the whale is currently stuck. The barge will facilitate a journey of approximately 400 kilometers to the open sea.

Rescue teams arrived with the necessary equipment on Friday. The plan involves carefully maneuvering “Timmy” onto the barge for transport. This operation represents a significant undertaking, aiming to move the injured whale into a more suitable environment for recovery.

The situation remains under close observation as the team executes its carefully considered strategy.
