New EU rules on travelling with pets, which you need to know

New EU Rules Impact Pet Travel Within the European Union

The Slovenian Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry announced the implementation of updated European Union rules concerning the non-commercial movement of pets, effective April 22nd across the EU and Slovenia. These new rules outline specific requirements for pet travel, impacting owners moving their animals within the EU or from third countries. The regulations apply to dogs, cats, and white furry ferrets.

To facilitate travel, animals must meet several criteria. All pets must be microchipped, and owners must provide proof of rabies vaccination. Furthermore, when traveling from designated third countries, pets will require a rabies antibody titration test upon entry into the EU.

Owners are also responsible for guaranteeing their pet’s rabies vaccination status. These rules aim to standardize pet travel procedures and ensure public health safety. Compliance with these regulations is now mandatory for all pets moving between EU member states and from outside the EU.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of owners understanding and adhering to these updated guidelines.
