Hungarian Astronaut Kapu Reflects on 20-Day Mission to ISS
Ljubljana, Slovenia – Hungarian astronaut Tibor Kapu, currently visiting Slovenia, recently discussed his experiences aboard the International Space Station (ISS) during a lecture at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Ljubljana. Kapu detailed his participation in the Axiom Mission 4 (AX-4), a mission that spanned 20 dni. The astronaut spent one day traveling to the ISS, 18 dni conducting research and operations on the station, and a final day for the vrnitev to Earth.
He highlighted the honor of working alongside the Axiom Mission 4 crew, which included Commander Peggy Whitson, the most experienced American astronaut – both male and female – alongside Indian and Polish counterparts. Kapu’s mission marked a significant milestone, making him the third Hungarian citizen to ever visit space. He noted that Hungary’s space program began nearly 40 years ago, and it took over four decades to send a national astronaut back into orbit.
“We began our space program almost 40 years ago,” Kapu stated. “It took more than 40 years to send our astronaut back into space.”
The mission concluded with a successful return to Earth, marking a culmination of extensive training and a pivotal moment for Hungarian space exploration.
