Millions for incineration, not for reuse: 35 cents as a solution?

Slovenia Faces Shortfalls in Reuse Infrastructure, Experts Warn

Slovenia is experiencing a significant lack of adequately supported reuse centers, a problem highlighted by industry leaders. According to Marinka Vovk, director of the CPU Reuse center, the current infrastructure is insufficient to effectively manage the country’s potential for circular economy practices. Vovk cited the example of Ljubljana, where the CPU Reuse center’s operations have been disrupted due to a lack of guaranteed space and consistent support.

This instability has resulted in a reduction of services, impacting the center’s ability to process valuable items. “There not enough reuse centers,” Vovk stated, emphasizing that many usable products are currently ending up in waste streams. These items could be repaired, resold at affordable prices, or donated to individuals in need.

The consequences of this shortfall are considerable, representing a loss for the environment, the community, and potential consumers. Reuse centers play a crucial role in facilitating this process, but the current situation prevents them from operating at full capacity. The lack of stable infrastructure and sufficient centers means that opportunities for reuse are not being realized, and further investigation into expanding and supporting these vital services is urgently needed.
