Moravska Municipality Announces Mayor Balažic’s Resignation
The Moravska municipality has formally acknowledged the resignation of Mayor Milan Balažic, effective immediately. The municipal council and the municipal electoral commission have received a letter formally documenting the resignation, triggering its legal consequences. The municipality cited “circumstances related to a criminal case against him” as the reason for Balažic’s departure.
Previously, the mayor had publicly refuted the accusations, initially dismissing them as politically motivated prior to the upcoming local elections. Balažic had contended that the criminal complaint held no merit. Following this assessment, Balažic ultimately decided to step down from his role.
Deputy Mayor Janez Vidic will assume the mayoral duties until a new mayor is inaugurated. Vidic was previously appointed in anticipation of a potential change in leadership. The municipality’s official website stated that the decision reflects a reassessment of the situation surrounding the ongoing legal proceedings.
The transition of power is now underway, with Deputy Mayor Vidic taking the lead in the interim.
