Janša: Matoz is a minister, because he is capable, not because he is my lawyer

Janša Defends Appointment of Lawyer Matoz to Interior Ministry Role

Ljubljana – Former Prime Minister Janez Janša has responded to accusations regarding the appointment of lawyer Franjo Matoz as a candidate for Minister of the Interior. Janša addressed the claims during an interview with Novo24TV, stating that the selection was based on operational capabilities and expertise. The controversy centers around Matoz’s representation of Janša in the Trenta case, which concluded with Janša’s recent acquittal.

Critics questioned the appropriateness of utilizing a personal lawyer in a government position. Janša firmly refuted the concerns, asserting that Matoz was proposed because of his deep understanding of the subject matter and the need for experienced personnel within the ministry. “This is all nonsense,” Janša stated.

“He is proposed to this position because he knows the subject and we need experienced people.” He emphasized that the decision was driven by professional considerations, not a personal connection. The appointment of Matoz remains a point of contention amidst ongoing scrutiny of Janša’s political activities.

  1. It’s concerning that a lawyer’s connections seem to be influencing such a crucial government position.
