The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has confirmed the death of Basidž Golamreza Solejmani, the commander of the Basij militia, a figure also claimed to have been killed in an Israeli assault in Tehran. The Basij operates under the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and is recognized for its significant role in the suppression of demonstrations within the Islamic Republic. Tragically, his son and accompanying bodyguards perished alongside Laridžani.
Laridžani, appointed by Iranian President Masud Pezeškian as head of the National Security Council and Hamene’s representative in the body last August, was further described by Iranian media as a consultant to the Supreme Leader, a casualty of Israeli-American attacks on February 28th. His extensive career included serving as the president of the parliament between 2008 and 2020, and previously, he held the position of chief nuclear negotiator in Tehran for two years. The Iranian authorities have firmly established Solejmani’s death, and also highlighted the tragic loss of Laridžani and his associates.
This event underscores the ongoing tensions and security concerns within the country.
