Iran attacked a tanker with two million barrels of oil

Following the Iranian assault on the Al Salmi tanker, a fire ignited onboard. Dubai firefighters swiftly extinguished the blaze and successfully averted a significant oil spill. Remarkably, all 24 crew members aboard the vessel sustained no injuries and were unharmed.

Dubai authorities have confirmed that Iran launched the attack utilizing drones against the tanker. The vessel was transporting approximately two million barrels of oil originating from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, with the intended buyer located in China. As visualized on the Marine Traffic map, the tanker was situated in a moored position off the coast of Dubai, directly facing the Strait of Hormuz.

This crucial maritime passage facilitates the transport of oil and gas from the surrounding region. Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that the conflict within Iran is already more than half complete. The disruption caused by Iranian attacks and related threats, stemming from the February-initiated conflict between the US and Israel, has substantially reduced traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

Currently, the waterway is primarily navigated by a single tanker.
