Drought conditions are deteriorating in Zidani due to an extended period without adequate rainfall, coupled with high temperatures and diminishing groundwater reserves. According to the Environment and Spatial Planning Inspectorate, the water levels in rivers and various watercourses are currently below typical levels for this time of year, and some smaller natural springs have already dried up. The Water Directorate has issued warnings regarding the extraction of water.
Officials noted an extreme increase in the withdrawal of water directly from riverbeds for agricultural irrigation and general watering purposes. They emphasized that, under the Water Law, such usage qualifies as a special water use and necessitates obtaining a specific water permit. The sustained lack of rainfall has significantly impacted the region’s hydrology, leading to the observed low levels across the watercourses.
To return to normal hydrological conditions, an estimated 100 mm of rainfall is required. These warnings underscore the current strain on local water resources and the need for regulated consumption practices across the region.
