Inflation Rises in April, Driven by Housing and Transportation Costs

April saw a continued increase in inflation, according to a report released by the statistical office. The annual inflation rate reached 0.6 percentage points higher than March and 0.8 percentage points above the rate recorded in April of last year. The primary driver of this increase was the housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels group, which saw a rise of 9.7 percent.

This contributed the highest 1.2 percentage points to the overall inflation figure. Transport costs also played a significant role, with prices increasing by 4.6 percent and adding 0.7 percentage points to inflation. The health group experienced a 5.3 percent rise, contributing 0.3 percentage points, while alcoholic beverages and tobacco, restaurants and accommodation services, and food and non-alcoholic beverages each added 2.6%, 4.3%, and 1.0 percentage points respectively.

Notably, the price of clothing and footwear decreased by 2.9 percent year-on-year, offering a slight counterweight to the rising costs across other sectors. The overall figures demonstrate a sustained upward trend in inflation, measured in percentage points.
