Fatal Traffic Collision on A1 Motorway Near Maribor

A fatal traffic accident occurred on the A1 motorway near Slivnica, approximately 15 kilometers west of Maribor, at approximately 00:30 local time. A 29-year-old driver operating a passenger car was traveling in the incorrect direction on the motorway, heading towards Maribor from the standard direction. This resulted in a collision with a passenger car driven by a man and his companion.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 39-year-old resident of Slovenska Bistrica, and his passenger, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina residing in the Maribor area, were pronounced dead at the scene. The 38-year-old driver of the initial passenger car sustained injuries. Emergency services responded to the scene, and four other vehicles were damaged as a result of the collision.

Traffic on the affected section of the A1 motorway was temporarily closed but fully reopened around 05:15. This incident marks the fourth fatal traffic accident investigated by the Maribor Police Department this year. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and the driver’s incorrect direction of travel.
