Young Giraffe Arrives at Warsaw Zoo Following Long Transport
Warsaw Zoo welcomed a young Nubian giraffe, named Pietruška, to its grounds on Friday. The animal was transferred from Ljubljana Zoo, Slovenia, marking a journey of approximately 1,000 kilometers. Ljubljana Zoo reported that Pietruška does not appreciate her Polish namesake, derived from the parsley.
The transport itself was a carefully orchestrated operation. The giraffe traveled safely within a specialized trailer designed to accommodate her size and specific needs. Zoo staff assisted in acclimating Pietruška to the trailer, allowing her to gradually adjust to the enclosed space.
During the 17-hour journey, the giraffe primarily traveled standing, occasionally resting for brief periods. Zoo officials noted that giraffes, in general, possess a preference for strong flavors and have been observed consuming stinging nettles. “The extensive journey was completed without incident,” stated the zoo.
“Caregivers diligently worked to ensure Pietruška’s comfort and well-being throughout the transport from ljubljana.” The arrival marks a significant addition to the zoo’s collection of exotic animals.
