In Istanbul, two buildings collapsed after a supposed gas explosion

A significant explosion took place in a building within the Fatih district, as confirmed by Istanbul Governor Davut Gul. Initial assessments indicate the blast originated from a natural gas source. The impact caused a catastrophic collapse, alongside the adjacent building.

Nine individuals were unfortunately trapped beneath the debris. Seven have already been successfully rescued, while another person has been located. A further one remains unaccounted for and is currently being actively searched for by rescue teams, according to reports from Turkey Today.

The situation has heightened concerns regarding the district’s aging housing stock. A municipal study reveals that Fatih possesses a substantial number of older residential units – nearly 40,000 – deemed to be at considerable risk. This area of istanbul is recognized as one of the most hazardous locations within the city.

The dot-burning buildings present a serious danger. Fatih district is consistently considered to be among istanbul’s most vulnerable zones.
