Hungarian Astronauts Visit Slovenia, Discuss Future of Space Exploration
Slovenia hosted two Hungarian astronauts last week, showcasing the nation’s renewed commitment to space exploration following a 45-year hiatus. The visit featured astronaut Hunor and Hungary’s return to space endeavors. Gyula Cserenyi, 36, played a crucial role in the program as a reserve astronaut.
While he did not undertake a mission into space, Cserenyi underwent extensive training alongside Tibor Kapu, who served as his primary monitor from Earth throughout the Ax-4 mission. This collaborative training period was central to the program’s preparation. During discussions, Cserenyi addressed the intensive training and preparations undertaken, highlighting the motivation behind the desire to explore space, the planned research objectives, and the evolving landscape of the space sector.
He also commented on the intensifying competition between the United States and China in the new space race. Kapu, who was involved in much of the training, closely observed Cserenyi’s progress. Despite not having personally traveled into space, the astronaut contributed significantly to the mission’s success.
The visit underscores Hungary’s dedication to expanding its presence in space and furthering scientific advancement.
