The management of the Hokejski drsalni društvo Jesenice (HDD Jesenice) has announced that the local hockey club is facing severe financial difficulties. This development presents a significant challenge to the Jesenice hockey community. Following an assembly in April, the club was awarded a new management mandate covering the period from 2026 to 2030, with Gregor Goričar assuming the role of club president.
However, after conducting a thorough review of the club’s finances, the newly appointed board discovered discrepancies between the current financial standing and the information provided during the handover process. Consequently, all members of the administrative board offered their resignations in July. The board stated that the issues stemmed from the emergence of unexpected liabilities and complications regarding the club’s actual legal status and financial scope, details which were reportedly not fully disclosed previously.
The board emphasized that their primary responsibility remains the protection of Jesenice hockey, its players, and its supporters. They indicated that when it became apparent that the club faced such profound issues, their duty compelled them to step down. The situation underscores a period of instability for the Jesenice hockey club as it navigates these unexpected financial and administrative hurdles.
