Branko Marušič, Scholar and Former Physician, Remembered for Intellectual Pursuits

Branko Marušič, born February 4, 1938, in Nova Gorica, was a man deeply engaged with the humanities and the history of his region. According to family members, he possessed a keen interest in music, visual arts, and literature, dedicating himself to reading “some” material that held “some meaning” and provided him with new information and knowledge. Marušič’s biography, currently being compiled by the Scientific Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU), details a life marked by intellectual curiosity.

He was described as a “competent interlocutor about anything that belongs to the humanities and is or was related to Gorizia.”

His educational journey began with elementary school in Solkan, culminating in graduation in 1955. He subsequently pursued studies in medicine at the University of Ljubljana, graduating in 1962, followed by a degree in history from the Faculty of Philosophy. After completing his military service, he transitioned to a career as a doctor.

The research project aims to document his life and contributions, highlighting his diverse interests and expertise.
