Taxi Drivers Express Concerns Over Rising Costs and Contract Terms
Ljubljana – Taxi drivers in Slovenia are voicing increasing concerns regarding the terms of their contracts with transport service providers, citing rising operational costs and a lack of negotiation opportunities. Sandi Kadić, president of the taxi driver’s union, addressed these issues at a press conference today. Kadić highlighted the impact of escalating fuel prices and other expenses on drivers’ profitability.
He stated that the current business model, dictated by transport companies, leaves drivers responsible for covering all costs. A single, fixed tariff is applied annually, without adjustments for peak periods or holidays. “We are informed of tariff changes with minimal notice, just before they take effect,” Kadić explained.
He further asserted that intermediaries are unresponsive to driver concerns, creating a significant barrier to finding mutually agreeable solutions. While acknowledging the role of platforms in the transport sector, Kadić emphasized the union’s desire for a “fair way of doing business.” He called on platforms to actively participate in developing solutions that benefit both drivers and customers. The union’s primary goal is to establish a more predictable and sustainable framework for taxi operations within the current market.
