It’s been a year since the new law on healthcare activities came into force, which was a key law of the healthcare reform of the Robert Golob government. This marks the end of the transitional period, after which most of its provisions will come into effect. One of these is the prohibition of contracts between public healthcare institutions and healthcare workers who work as self-employed professionals.
Bojana Beović, president of the Slovenian Medical Chamber, believes that this restriction will affect mainly smaller healthcare institutions, where doctors from other institutions help in specialist clinics and the emergency service. “Contracting with natural persons means a different tax situation and it is a question of whether, under new conditions, all doctors will decide to continue working or whether they will weigh up the fact that payment is too low.
