Grandfather does not understand why he is in prison, 16 neglected children

A family member accused of the alleged abuse of sixteen children in Southern Ohio was released from jail yesterday and subsequently taken to a local hospital due to reported health issues, according to media reports. The authorities had previously discovered the children locked within a dilapidated residence. According to the Associated Press, the parents and grandparents of the children had made the initial reports.

During a press conference, Vinton County Prosecutor William Archer confirmed that Gary Siders, the elder family member, had fallen and was transported to the OhioHealth O’Bleness hospital in Athens. Judge Laina Rogers subsequently modified the terms of his bail. The initial $300,000 bond was converted into a written guarantee, with the stipulation that failure to appear in court would result in a fine of the same amount.

Following this, it was reported that Siders was recommended for transfer to a larger facility within the OhioHealth O’Bleness hospital system. The incident remains under investigation, following the discovery of the children in the unsecured dwelling. The legal proceedings continue to focus on the allegations of neglect and abuse surrounding the care of the minors.
