General forgot secret documents about the war in Ukraine on the train

Generalmajor Antonio Aguto, now retired, previously served as the commander of the Ukraine Security Assistance Group between 2022 and 2024, stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany. He was returning from Ukraine to Germany on April 3, 2024, and carried confidential materials, including maps, which were improperly secured. Fox News reported that this occurred during a train transfer in Poland.

The group, under aguto’s leadership, disembarked the train at the transfer point, leaving the documents unattended. Despite not being authorized to possess such sensitive materials, Aguto informed investigators that he accepted responsibility for their brief lapse in security. The confidential documents were swiftly recovered and delivered to the American embassy within 24 hours.

A railway employee facilitated the transfer, ensuring the materials were safely secured. Investigators now require access to examine the documents. It is imperative that we see them.
