The government has maintained the excise tax on diesel fuel at its lowest permissible level. According to an announcement regarding oil product pricing on the Ministry of Finance’s website, the ministry stated that the excise tax has remained unchanged since mid-June. Officials explained that this measure is intended to alleviate the pressure on households and the broader economy resulting from elevated energy prices, which are attributed to the conflict in the Middle East.
Furthermore, the government implemented additional measures at the end of July. These actions included a temporary freeze on the payment of the energy efficiency contribution and the environmental tax related to carbon dioxide emissions for motor gasoline, diesel fuel, and extra heavy fuel oil, lasting for a two-month period. In contrast to regulated products, merchants are permitted to set prices freely for goods transported on motorways and expressways.
The pricing structure for regulated oil products, however, is subject to calculation and oversight. Overall, the government’s actions reflect an effort to stabilize consumer costs despite volatile global energy markets.
