40-year-old Guillermo Ochoa is set to start in the Mexico’s goal, but Raul Angel is likely to start at the Azteca stadium, where Pele became World Champion with Brazil for the third time in 1970. 16 years later, Diego Maradona led the Argentines to their second title at the same stadium. In both cases, the home crowd advanced to the knockout stages, which is the team’s primary goal this year – a big part of achieving that would be a victory over South Africa.
“I haven’t felt more excitement in 50 years of football. Our team has grown through the preparations, we have become a real family, and now we just have to enjoy,” says Mexican coach Javier Aguirre, who will try to continue the positive tradition: Mexico advanced to the first round of the World Cup.
