A major fire erupted on Saturday afternoon, affecting areas within the municipalities of Komen and Miren-Kostanjevica. According to Blaž Rogelja, the head of the intervention team near Brestovica, the blaze covered an estimated 20 hectares of land. By the evening, while the fire was largely contained, it had not yet been fully extinguished.
The response to the significant fire required substantial resources. Operations continued through the night, involving 148 volunteers from voluntary firefighting associations, alongside assistance from the municipal civil protection command of Komen. Multiple specialized units were deployed to manage the incident.
These included personnel from the Kraška gas brigade, the Gas Gas Federation of Gorizia, the Nova Gorica-Šempeter contingent, the Sežana Fire Service, and the professional Fire Brigade Unit of Nova Gorica. Additionally, the command vehicle belonging to the Fire Brigade of Slovenia was activated to support the ongoing efforts. As the situation evolved, teams continued to work on the fire scene.
The coordinated effort by these various emergency services aimed to bring the extensive blaze under control. The deployment of numerous resources underscores the scale of the incident that occurred in the area near Komen.
