Extremely dry conditions across the country, most critically in the south

Over the past thirty days, Slovenia has recorded significantly less precipitation than the long-term average for this time of year. This deficit in rainfall, coupled with high temperatures and sunny weather, has resulted in increased water evaporation from both soil and vegetation. The received precipitation was characterized by an uneven spatial distribution, leading to varying drought conditions across the country.

Specific regions reporting exceptional drought include the Lower Sava Valley, Lower Carniola, Bela Krajina, Kočevje, and the Coast. Furthermore, dry conditions have also been noted in Carinthia and Podravje. The situation in some areas presents exceptions to this trend.

Parts of the Ljubljana surroundings, Inner Carniola, and the Gorizia region are experiencing localized drought, rather than widespread exceptional conditions. According to the Agency for Medicinal Plants (ARS), this variability is directly attributed to the uneven pattern of precipitation during the measured period. These prevailing environmental conditions highlight the significant impact of localized weather patterns on water resources.

The uneven distribution of rainfall has placed considerable stress on natural ecosystems. Monitoring efforts continue to track the evolving hydrological conditions as authorities assess the impact of these dry spells across the various regions.
