Dramatic video of the earthquake: it shook for more than a minute

A significant earthquake, measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale, dramatically shook the northern Indonesian coastline, specifically off the coast of Ternate Island. The seismic event was felt across a wide area, including numerous cities such as Manado and Bitung located on the island of Sulawesi. Reports from the BBC indicate that a 70-year-old resident tragically lost his life after being trapped beneath the rubble.

Several individuals sustained injuries while attempting to evacuate to safer locations. The earthquake triggered widespread concern and panic amongst the population. Many residents reacted with immediate alarm, leaving their homes, shops, and schools in a hurried exodus.

This resulted in considerable confusion and disruption throughout the affected areas. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued tsunami warnings for several countries within the region, but these alerts were subsequently lifted after approximately two hours. Despite the cancellation of the warnings, residents responded with considerable anxiety and a sense of urgency.

Witnesses described the intensity of the shaking, stating, “It was really strong… It was really strong.” The situation remains under close observation as authorities assess the full extent of the damage and provide support to those impacted by this devastating earthquake.
