Dončić’s teammate took an oath and received a Slovenian passport

Jaxson Hayes Receives Slovenian Citizenship, Future with National Team Uncertain

Los Angeles Lakers center Jaxson Hayes, a 26-year-old player standing at 213 centimeters, has been granted Slovenian citizenship. The move was facilitated through the support of numerous organizations, including the Slovenian Olympic Committee (KZS) and the Slovenian government. According to KZS Secretary General Aleš Križnar, the process involved “sincere thanks” to the National Assembly, the Slovenian government, and various ministries, alongside the embassy in Washington.

Hayes completed the necessary formalities, including taking an oath and obtaining a passport, earlier this week. While Hayes played in 75 games for the Los Angeles Lakers last season, averaging 18 minutes per game with 7.4 points and 4.1 rebounds, his future with the Slovenian national team remains unclear. Križnar stated that the team will not utilize Hayes in the upcoming qualification window.

However, he expressed optimism regarding Hayes’ potential contribution, citing the player’s youth, skills, and experience. The acquisition of a Slovenian passport opens possibilities for Jaxson Hayes to represent Slovenia internationally.
