The current parliamentary mandate is nearing its end, with the largest number of MPs shifting allegiance to the SDS. The final significant transfer of members between parliamentary groups or political parties occurred in January, just two months prior to the upcoming general elections. This unexpected move saw Matej Tašner Vatovec, the leader of the Levica parliamentary group, join the SD.
The negotiations surrounding this transfer were conducted in considerable secrecy, a decision that particularly shocked his former colleagues within Levica. Asta Vrečko, previously known as the coordinator for Levica, responded vehemently, accusing Tašner Vatovec of prioritizing personal gain over the party’s interests. Tašner Vatovec, however, defended his choice, stating that his decision wasn’t impulsive.
He explained that after careful consideration, he believed he could make a greater contribution to the SD than within the Levica framework. This departure follows earlier shifts within the Levica party, marking a notable change in the political landscape.
