The Registry Center for Information in Kranj notified local police on Monday afternoon regarding an accident that occurred in the mountains along the route across the Prag in the Julian Alps. According to preliminary reports provided by authorities, a 70-year-old hiker, identified as a German citizen, was involved in the incident. The details indicate that the individual approached the edge of a small ravine with the intent of taking a photo.
While at the edge, the hiker slipped, falling approximately 30 meters into the ravine. Boštjan Repinc, a representative from the Kranj Police Department, confirmed that the hiker sustained severe physical injuries at the scene. Despite being properly equipped, the injuries proved fatal.
In response to the emergency, rescue operations were immediately mobilized. Personnel from the Mojstrana Rescue Service and the on-call crew from the GRZS helicopter, provided by the Slovenian Police Service, were dispatched to the location. These teams successfully reached the hiker and transported the body down into the valley.
Following the incident, mountain police officers secured the area to conduct a thorough inspection of the site. Authorities remain on location to continue collecting data related to the accident. The investigation aims to determine the full circumstances surrounding the hiker’s fall in the mountainous region.
