A significant fire broke out in Žedno on Tuesday following a severe storm. The blaze was ignited by lightning striking dry vegetation and forest areas. At times, the uncontrolled fire posed a danger to nearby residential structures; however, responding personnel successfully protected all the buildings.
The situation was complicated by a strong westerly wind that persisted, requiring firefighters to reinforce their efforts throughout the incident. Initial reports indicated that 30 firefighters arrived at the scene utilizing 10 vehicles, with an additional 20 joining the effort shortly thereafter. According to the Croatian Firefighters Association, the overall response was substantial.
The fire was ultimately extinguished by approximately 70 firefighters operating with more than 20 fire vehicles. Furthermore, three dedicated firefighting planes were deployed to assist in the containment efforts. The deployment of multiple resources was necessary due to the intensity of the blaze and the challenging weather conditions.
The combined efforts of the firefighters ensured that despite the strong winds and the initial threat to homes, the community infrastructure remained safe. The successful management of the fire highlights the coordinated response of emergency services when faced with natural hazards exacerbated by severe weather.
