Confident Celjani in one voice: The difference should be higher

Celjani Secure Seven-Goal Lead, Macedonian Comeback Falls Short in Handball Semifinal

Celjani established a significant advantage in their semifinal handball match against Macedonia, leading by seven goals in the 12th minute of the second half. This was the highest difference achieved during the contest, positioning Celjani favorably for the subsequent match in Ohrid. However, Macedonian handball players mounted a determined comeback, ultimately reducing the gap to just one goal.

“There is certainly a degree of bitterness,” stated coach Andraž Makuc following the game. “We established a substantial difference, but ultimately, the final score was only one goal apart. Despite this, we can be satisfied with our resilience and the team’s ability to respond after an initial period of nervousness.”

Aljuš Anžič, who scored one of Celjani’s eight goals, echoed this sentiment, acknowledging the team’s youthful composition and recent demanding schedule.

“We are a young team. We played the semifinal of the European Cup, and we are going to the return game with a +1 advantage. Our primary objective must be to secure a victory in Macedonia.”

Anžič conceded that a greater difference could have been achieved, stating, “The game would have been better had the outcome been different, and we would have won the match.” The result sets the stage for a crucial return leg in Macedonia.
