Cirque du Soleil Prepares for Extensive Global Tour
Cirque du Soleil is undertaking a massive undertaking with its upcoming tour, requiring a coordinated effort involving over one hundred individuals. The production’s complexity necessitates a dedicated team responsible for all aspects of the show’s execution. Technical staff manage the intricate equipment, including lights, sound, and video projections.
A separate logistics team handles crucial elements such as transport, visas, and overall coordination. The significant cost associated with this operation is reflected in the inclusion of a costume shop, a dedicated gym, and catering services provided by chefs with five-star ratings. “We have technical staff who take care of the technical equipment,” explained Janie Mallet, a Cirque du Soleil representative.
“And you have to pay for it.” The company even travels with five washing machines to maintain the performers’ needs while on the road. The show’s design, known as OVO, is conceived as a single, integrated ecosystem. As the troupe travels globally, performers describe a feeling of existing “like a bubble and sometimes we don’t know where we are.”
Acrobats Beau Sargent and Jesse Harris highlighted recent improvements to the production, noting upgrades to costumes and technical equipment.
“This is a refresher, we have improved the costumes, the technical equipment, the stage,” Harris stated. Mallet emphasized the comprehensive nature of the operation, stating, “Everything you see is what we have done. We have everything, you can see it.” The tour represents a significant investment and a meticulous process involving who travels together throughout the year.
