Resolution Reached in Biobank Dispute After Two-Year Wait
Following two years of uncertainty, a resolution is nearing for approximately 500 samples linked to the Biobank project, involving children and their parents. The Public Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices has issued an enforcement order, authorizing police and inspectors to access GaiaCell Gordane Kalan Živčec’s premises. This order grants the authority to enter the facility, including breaking into cabinets and vials containing the samples.
Approximately 500 samples were initially entrusted to Original Cell, a subsidiary of the Polish Famicord, for the Biobank project. GaiaCell Gordane Kalan Živčec stated she will not obstruct the entry but will not participate in the process. She expressed serious concerns regarding the potential for damage to the samples and the safety of the facility, stating, “If the samples are damaged, if the gas breaks – I do not accept responsibility.”
The enforcement order allows for the retrieval of the samples, concluding a protracted legal and logistical challenge.
Authorities will be involved in the process of securing and transporting the samples.
