US Officials Confirm Seizure of Vessels in the Strait of Hormuz
Washington – The seizure of two vessels in the Strait of Hormuz by Iranian forces does not represent a breach of the existing ceasefire, according to statements from White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt. Leavitt emphasized that the vessels involved were international merchant ships, not American or Israeli vessels. Iranian fast boats were responsible for the detention, according to Leavitt’s account.
She stated that the incident indicates Iranian behavior akin to piracy. The spokesperson reiterated that the U.S. maritime sanctions against Iranian ports remain in effect.
“The iranski action in besedah concerning these ladji highlights a concerning trend,” Leavitt explained. “This incident underscores the ongoing need for vigilance in the region.”
Separately, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced the seizure. President Donald Trump previously asserted on his Truth Social platform that Iran had heeded his request to forgo a planned execution of eight women.
“I want to thank Iran and its leaders for respecting my request as President and cancelling the planned executions,” Trump wrote. The situation remains under close observation by U.S. naval forces.
