The body of Elisabeth Jane Ross, a 38-year-old Scottish national, was discovered on July 18th by a homeless individual in an abandoned structure within Athens’ Kypseli district. The discovery occurred several days after Ms. Ross had been reported missing.
Following the finding, Greek police apprehended 26-year-old Sharif Ahmad, who has since been charged with premeditated murder. His trial is set to take place in Athens on Wednesday. During three days of interrogation, Ahmad admitted to taking the woman’s body and placing it within a suitcase.
He also acknowledged using the deceased woman’s credit cards to withdraw €10,000 from bank machines. However, Ahmad has formally denied any involvement in the actual murder. The prosecution is expected to present video evidence during the trial.
This footage, captured on the night of July 16th, reportedly shows Ahmad operating a stolen vehicle en route to the abandoned building where the body was found. Authorities maintain that the video evidence contradicts Ahmad’s claims regarding his level of involvement in the death of the woman. The legal proceedings will center on these discrepancies between the physical evidence and the suspect’s statements concerning the disposal of the body and the circumstances of her disappearance.
