AVK, at the request of the Croats, investigated the company in Ljubljana

The Public Agency for Competition Protection (AVK) initiated an investigation into Candy Hoover following a court order from the Ljubljana District Court and a request from the Croatian competition watchdog, AZTN. This marked the first instance in the AVK’s history where an investigation was simultaneously conducted in Slovenia and within another EU member state, based on a request from a foreign competition authority. The investigation centers on suspicions that Candy Hoover and Haier Croatia, operating as an economic unit, have engaged in practices that may restrict the ability of their distributors to determine selling prices within Slovenia and Croatia.

“I am pleased that international cooperation was extremely smooth and effective, as this confirms our readiness and ability to work together at the level of the entire EU. With such cooperation, we can achieve much more,” stated the AVK. The agency emphasized the significance of this collaborative effort, highlighting it as a key step in bolstering competition within the European Union.

The investigation in Ljubljana represents a notable expansion of the AVK’s operational capabilities and underscores its commitment to enforcing EU competition law through international partnerships. The request for assistance from AZTN facilitated this unique investigation.
