Astronauts called from space: ‘A wonderful view of the dark side of the Earth’

The Artemis 2 mission crew, consisting of four astronauts, has successfully transmitted updates following their launch into space. NASA’s chief of spaceflight, Judd Frieling, confirmed the astronauts were in excellent spirits, stating, “there is no sign of any problems.” The team is currently focused on the flight’s operations, but they have also found time to appreciate the spectacular views. Following their initial meal after takeoff, the astronauts relayed their experiences.

Mission specialist Jeremy Hansen, on his first space flight, described, “We have a beautiful view of the dark side of the Earth, illuminated by the Moon.” The crew’s initial activities have been centered around the mission itself. Commander Reid Wiseman inquired about the possibility of contacting their families from space. While this communication hasn’t occurred yet, it is anticipated to take place in the near future.

The astronauts are diligently carrying out their tasks while simultaneously enjoying the extraordinary perspective offered by space. The overall assessment remains positive, with no indications of any difficulties encountered by the space-bound astronauts.
