‘Arteta killed my joy of football at Arsenal’

Jorginho Seeks Renewed Opportunity with Flamengo

Jorginho has joined Brazilian club Flamengo as a free agent, marking a significant shift in his career following a period with Arsenal. The Italian midfielder, who played for Italy’s Azzurre due to his heritage and early move to the country, cited a desire to rediscover his passion for the game as a key factor in his decision. Following a transfer from Chelsea – where he notably won the Champions League – to Arsenal in 2023, Jorginho’s role diminished, primarily serving as a rotation player.

This impacted his motivation and approach to his position. “I want to feel alive and important for the team,” Jorginho stated in an interview with The Times. “When a player is not on the field, it is difficult to stay motivated.”

Over his time with Topničar, Jorginho accumulated 79 appearances, with only 27 of those being starts.

He expressed a growing need for increased playing time in recent months, fueling his pursuit of a new challenge. This move represents his attempt to regain a central role and contribute meaningfully to Flamengo. His ambition remains focused on feeling valued and engaged within his team.
