It is a concerning reality that, considering these factors, many individuals grapple with significant mental distress. “What if it’s all true?” I posed the question, and I engaged a respected psychiatrist who has dedicated over 40 years to assisting individuals with mental health challenges. She affirmed that approximately one third of the population – including myself – experiences serious mental distress at least once during their lifetime.

This represents a substantial portion, as we also see a concerning trend: annually, 20 percent of people require assistance with mental problems. Prof. Vesna Švab, MD, a consultant to the World Health Organization (WHO), currently serves as the head of the Adult Mental Health Center in Logatec.

I inquired about strategies for preserving mental well-being in an era dominated by idealized portrayals and the pervasive influence of social networks, which often diverge from genuine experiences. Her response highlighted the importance of understanding our unique inner worlds. It’s also crucial to acknowledge that many people experience mental health issues.

Maintaining a healthy mental state requires careful consideration, especially given the current landscape of readily available, yet potentially misleading, information.
