Truck Driver Arrested in Slovenj Gradec Fraud Investigation
Maribor police arrested a truck driver at the end of May on suspicion of assisting two legal representatives implicated in two criminal offenses related to fraud. Anita Kovačič, a representative of the Maribor Police District, detailed the investigation. The individuals, based in the Slovenj Gradec area, are accused of facilitating fraudulent administrative procedures.
Specifically, they utilized the name of a company from Trebnje to secure transport services within the European Union. This enabled them to establish a business transporting copper products from Spain to Italy and from Germany to Slovenia. To execute this operation, the suspects contracted Slovenian and Bosnian transport companies.
The drivers employed by these companies delivered the cargo directly to the Slovenj Gradec-based company, rather than to the intended recipients involved in the fraudulent scheme. The Maribor police initiated the investigation following concerns about irregularities in transport operations. The arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation involving two individuals and the Maribor police.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the full extent of the fraudulent activities.
