A 30-year-old man was detained by the Maribor Police Department on July 12th at the Gorišnica Police Post in connection with an investigation into fraudulent currency. During the initial investigation, officers seized multiple instances of counterfeit 20 and 100 euro banknotes. The police subsequently conducted a vehicle search, which was authorized by a court order.
This search yielded a significant collection of fake currency, including 164 twenty-euro banknotes and 21 one-hundred-euro banknotes. All seized banknotes were transported to the National Forensic Laboratory for detailed analysis. The laboratory confirmed that every single banknote recovered was counterfeit.
Information gathered by the police indicates that the suspect has been actively circulating these fake funds. Authorities report that the man has allegedly spent the twenty-euro banknotes at a minimum of seven different locations, and utilized the one-hundred-euro banknotes at least seven separate times.
