Six Migrants Die in Croatia Following Border Crossing Attempt
Police in Preloka, Croatia, arrested two Sudanese citizens on Saturday who were attempting to illegally cross the border. During questioning, authorities discovered a group of six migrants, including the two arrested individuals. The group had reportedly entered the country from Sudan, and according to initial reports, three of the migrants were swept away by the water while attempting to navigate a river.
One of the Sudanese nationals managed to self-rescue from the water. Tragically, he succumbed to drowning. Following a notification from Slovenian colleagues, Croatian security authorities located two additional migrants who were found drowned near the river.
Police are currently conducting a full investigation into the incident, focusing on determining all the circumstances surrounding the event. They are also working to positively identify the remaining foreign nationals within the group. On Sunday, authorities recovered a sixth body from the Mrežnica river in Croatia.
The body was retrieved by Croatian security forces. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to be released as they become available.
