Japanese Ambassador Highlights Strengthening Ties with Slovenia

Ljubljana – Japanese Ambassador to Slovenia, Akiko Yoshida, has described the recent bestowal of the Great Golden Star Order as a “historic milestone,” reflecting the growing relationship between Japan and Slovenia. The award recognizes significant contributions to the advancement of bilateral relations. The honor was presented in recognition of efforts undertaken during the tenure of Slovenia’s Prime Minister Miro Cerar, between 2014 and 2018.

During this period, numerous activities fostered closer ties between the two nations. These included Prime Minister Cerar’s visit to Japan in October 2016, which significantly bolstered relations across multiple sectors. Specifically, the Japanese government cited advancements in economic and scientific-technological collaborations, alongside increased mutual understanding, as key factors in the decision.

The Great Golden Star Order is the highest decoration conferred by the Japanese government upon foreign citizens who have demonstrably strengthened bilateral relations. Ambassador Yoshida’s comments underscore the ongoing commitment to deepening cooperation between Japan and Slovenia, building upon the groundwork established during Prime Minister Cerar’s leadership.
