Explosion in Tolmin Results in Injuries, Investigation Underway

On May 1st, authorities responded to an explosion in the Koritnica settlement of Tolmin, within the Baška grapa municipality. The Regional Information Center in Nova Gorica alerted police to the incident, prompting a swift response from officers in Tolmin and criminal investigators from Nova Gorica. Initial investigations determined that a 34-year-old man was in possession of a copper detonator, the type and manufacturer of which remain unknown.

The detonator was being stored in the basement of a residential building. At approximately 8:37 pm, the device was set up in the basement – secured in a metal vise on a work desk – and subsequently detonated. The explosion caused physical injuries to the man involved.

Emergency services responded immediately, with firefighters from the Grahovo Gorenjska gas brigade assisting the Tolmin NMP emergency medical service in providing care. Following initial first aid, the injured individual was transferred to the Tolmin NMP emergency medical service for further treatment. The precise circumstances surrounding the activation of the detonator are currently under investigation.

Police are examining the scene and gathering information to determine the cause of the explosion. This incident occurred in the municipality of Tolmin and involved a copper detonator.
